Alessandra Brezzi is Associate professor of Chinese Language and Literature (L-OR/21) at the Department of Oriental Studies of La Sapienza University in Rome. In 2000 she obtained a Ph. D. degree in Oriental Studies, at L’Orientale University in Naples, discussing a dissertation on Women’s press in China 1898-1911; the following year she was awarded a post-doctoral appointment at the Faculty of Humanities of La Sapienza University in Rome, with a research entitled: Shan Shili and his journey to Italy, 1910.

From 2001 to 2004 she was adjunct professor of Chinese Language and Literature at Urbino University. In 2004 she obtained the qualification of Associate professor of Chinese Language and Literature (L-OR/21). From 2012 to 2014 she was the Head of the First Level Master in Arabic, Chinese, Russian: language, intercultural studies and business internationalisation (University of Urbino). Since 2013 she has moved to La Sapienza University in Rome, where she teaches Chinese Language and Literature. From 2014 to 2016 she was the Executive Director of the Conficius Institute of Sapienza University in Rome. From March to September 2016, she was a member of the committee appointed by MIUR (Italian Ministry of Education, Universities and Research) to design a Syllabus for the teaching of Chinese Language and Culture in Italian high schools. From November 2017 to November 2020 she was the Head of Department of Oriental Studies. In the same years she was also a member of the Committee of Linguistic Centre of Sapienza. From November 2021 to November 2022 she was the Director of the Master in specialized translation (II°) He research focuses on Chinese travel literature and the reception of Italian Literature in China.

She is a member of the Scientific and Academic Committees of RSO (Review of Oriental Studies), of the international journal Sinología Hispanica, and of Florentalia Review (University of Florence). She is also on the Board of the Ph.D. courses in Civilizations of Asia and Africa.

She is a member of the Italian Association of Chinese Studies (A.I.S.C.), the European Association of Chinese Studies (E.A.C.S) and the European Association of Chinese Linguistics (E.A.C.L.). Since September 2015 she has been on the board of the A.i.s.c. (Italian Association of Chinese studies - Associazione Italiana di Studi Cinesi).
