Anna Lisa Tota is Deputy-Rector of Roma Tre University since 13 July 2022, delegate for the coordination of Third Mission activities, Full Professor in Sociology of Culture and Communication at the Department FILCOSPE where she teaches Art Sociology, Communication Sociology and Music Sociology. Since 2009 to 2023 she has taught as Visiting Professor Sociology of Advertising at the Universität St. Gallen, Hochschule für Wirtschafts, Rechts und Sozialwissenschaften in Switzerland.
From 2014 to 2017 she coordinated the Section “Processes and Cultural Institutions” of the Italian Association of Sociology (AIS). From 2009 to 2011 she was Chair of the Research Network “Sociology of culture” of the European Sociological Association (ESA). From 2001 to 2003 she was Chair of the Research Network “Sociology of the Arts” of the European Sociological Association (ESA). From 1999 to 2010 she was expert evaluator for the European Commission. From 1999 to 2001 she was Chairman of the Ministerial Committee “Gender, generation, cultural differences” established by the Equal Opportunities Minister Laura Balbo. As part of her activities for the promotion of public awareness in relation to trauma and human rights, she has promoted numerous initiatives in University in cooperation with Amnesty International Italia and the Italian associations of victims’ relatives of terrorism. She has done extensively research on public memories of the victims of the Italian terrorist attacks, on memory studies, museums, music, arts and gender studies. From 2023 she is Principal Investigator for the Research Project “TRAMIGRART From “places of violence” to “spaces of memory”: the role of artistic practices in the inscription of forced migration as cultural trauma in the public discourse” financed by the Italian Ministry of University and Research. She has published several books, and more than 100 articles and chapters on the following topics: ecology of conversation, media ecology, sociology of the arts, memory studies, terrorism, gender studies, photography, music, advertising, media studies, qualitative methodology.
