Educational goals and objectives

descrizione:	Il dottorato "Psicologia e Neuroscienze Sociali", coordinato dal Prof. Matteo Candidi, deriva dall'accorpamento di due dottorati vale a dire l'International Ph.D. in Cognitive Social and Affective Neuroscience (CoSAN, coordinato dal prof. Salvatore M. Aglioti) e il dottorato in Prosocialità, Innovazione ed Efficacia collettiva nei contesti educativi ed organizzativi (coordinato dalla prof.ssa Maria Grazia Gerbino). Il nuovo programma dottorale consta di 2 curricula scientifici: Cognitive Social and Affective Neuroscience (CoSAN) e Personality and Organizational Psychology (POP). Il curriculum CoSAN si propone di favorire lo studio dei sistemi cerebrali che sono alla base delle funzioni cognitive, affettive e sociali. Lo studio di tali sistemi è condotto sia nell'adulto che nel corso dello sviluppo, in condizioni fisiologiche e patologiche (per esempio in lesioni cerebrali e disfunzioni cerebrali sottostanti a deficit nella cognizione sociale ed affettiva). Una particolare attenzione viene prestata alla plasticità delle funzioni cognitive, sociali e affettive. Ulteriore attenzione viene data alla possibilità di creare un ponte tra la ricerca in laboratorio e la riabilitazione clinica delle funzioni corticali superiori alla base delle funzioni cognitive, sociali ed affettive. Il curriculum POP si propone di stimolare e realizzare studi e ricerche sulle determinanti personali e contestuali dell'adattamento in diversi ambiti, quello educativo, organizzativo e sanitario, con lo scopo di promuovere la salute e il benessere a livello individuale e collettivo. In particolare il curriculum mira ad una formazione multidisciplinare, traendo vantaggio dalle teorie e dalle tecniche più avanzate che aspirano alla convergenza di linee di ricerca sulla personalità nel ciclo di vita, sulle relazioni interpersonali e sociali, sulle pluralità culturali. Capitalizzando sull'esperienza di CoSAN, il nuovo programma dottorale si caratterizza per programmi di ricerca da condurre su base reciproca in almeno una delle università consorziate, in aggiunta all’università coordinatrice del dottorato (Sapienza Università di Roma), e per il mantenimento degli accordi già esistenti con altre università, nonché la stipula di nuovi al fine di mantenere la caratterizzazione di International PhD. In quest'ottica, le attività del programma hanno luogo interamente in lingua inglese in modo da attrarre candidati da tutto il mondo. Anche quest'anno, oltre a dottorandi provenienti da varie università italiane (Chieti, Milano, Verona, Padova e Udine) è iscritta una studentessa belga, e due studenti indiani. Tutti gli studenti devono obbligatoriamente trascorrere periodi di ricerca in una delle sedi straniere consorziate.

PhD:	PSYCHOLOGY AND SOCIAL NEUROSCIENCE
description:	The PhD in "Psychology and Social Neuroscience" is a 3 year multi-centre Ph.D. programme that is designed to train researchers in a multidisciplinary vein and to advance their knowledge in theory, research methodology, and several substantive fields that are part of psychology and social neuroscience field. Students may apply to one of the two research tracks (curriculum): A) Cognitive Social and Affective Neuroscience (CoSAN) and B) Personality and Organizational Psychology (POP). Both curricula COSAN e POP aims: * To provide methodological knowledge, develop theoretically sound and cogent experimental, quasi experimental and longitudinal-cross-sectional designs and paradigms. * To train Ph.D. students to be future independent researchers by supporting their proactive role from writing scientific articles to grant hunting and grant writing. * To encourage inquisitive, creative and critical thinking through group interaction and cooperation. * To reinforce the interaction between partner laboratories by sharing knowledge and expertise and through researchers' mobility. In particular, Ph.D. students will carry out their research projects at Sapienza University of Rome and another university within the PhD network. During the first year each student must attend courses both on conceptual models, research methodology and paradigms within the basic themes previous mentioned. During the first year, Phd students are required to identify the research line they want to pursue and present their own research project. During the second and third year students in conjunction with their tutor must realize their research projects and scientific publications on Italian and international journals. Scientific publications represent evaluation criteria for the admission to the final defense. Finally first, second and third year students are required to attend regular seminar, lab meetings and courses planned within the programme as well as summer-schools, national and international conference, stages in different university sites within the International Bilateral cultural and scientific Agreements established by the program.
