S. Wabnitz obtained the Degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of Rome "La Sapienza" in 1982, the Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from the California Institute of Technology in 1983, and the PhD in Applied Electromagnetism from the Ministry of Public Education in 1988. He was a researcher in the optical telecommunications sector of the Ugo Bordoni Foundation in Rome from 1985 to 1996, where he contributed to the development of the theory of nonlinear propagation in optical fibers and waveguides. Since 1996 he has been Full Professor at the Physics Laboratory of the University of Burgundy in Dijon, France. From 1999 to 2003 he carried out research and development activities in important laboratories of the optical communications industry. In the first two years he worked on nonlinear effects in fibers for submarine cable and system applications as a senior engineer at the Research and Innovation Laboratory of the Alcatel company in Marcoussis, France. He was then for two years manager of the advanced technologies group of Xtera Communications, Inc. in Texas in the USA, working on the design of long-distance transmission systems using ultra-broadband Raman amplification technology. From 2007 and 2018 he was full professor of electromagnetic fields, at the Department of Information Engineering of the University of Brescia. Since 2018 he has been full professor of telecommunications at the Department of Information Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunications of the Sapienza University of Rome. His current research activities concern nonlinear propagation in very high capacity fiber transmission systems, fiber laser sources and all-optical signal processing devices. He is the author or co-author of over 800 journal articles or presentations at international conferences.
